2001-Now

In 2000 Stuart Fawcett returned to conduct the band where he learned to play in the 1950’s/60’s. This offered a period of stability, (almost half the band members at present have ten years or more service with Meltham,) which together with Stuart’s determination and energy helped get the Band promoted back to the 1st section in 2008, and again to the Championship Section from January 1st 2012.

Stuart decided towards the end of 2010 to step down and retire from conducting in 2011. The promotion to Championship Section was confirmed in 2011 but Stuart decided his decision to retire would stand and regrettably he did not have the chance to perform on the Championship contest platform with the band which under his guidance, gained that achievement.

After Stuart’s retirement in 2010 we appointed Robin Morgan to take us to the National Finals in 2010 in Harrogate playing the Test Piece Diversions on a Bass Theme. Robin took the band to the Yorkshire Regional Championships in 2011 where they competed in the 1st Section and gained a 6th place. The combination of results from 2009. 2010 and 2011 promoted the band to the Championship Section from January 1st 2012.

For the band’s return to the Championship Section they appointed Norman Law to take the band to their first appearance in the Championship Section Yorkshire Regional Contest since the glory days of John Gladney. The band competed in the Championship Section again in 2013 but their collective results of 2011 ,2012 and 2013 saw the band relegated to the 1st Section again from January 2014.

Following the 2016 Yorkshire Regional Championship the band the band found themselves being relegated to the 2nd Section and parted ways with Norman Law. Tim Sidwell was then appointed and he conducted the band until 2018.

2018 to the present day the band has been conducted by Tom Haslam. In 2022 the band were placed 1st in the 2nd Section at the Yorkshire Regional Contest and were invited to play in the National Brass Band Championships held in Cheltenham. In 2023 the band again won the Second Section at the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Contest and again were invited to compete at the National Brass Band Championships in Cheltenham. These 2 wins meant the band were promoted back in to the 1st Section from January 2024. The band have an interesting habit of being drawn to play no 1 at many contests and this included both 2022 and 2023 where the band won 1st prize after being drawn no 1 at both of the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band CHampionships..
